Firm Resolves International Child Custody Dispute

Fairfax County, Virginia
July 2007

The firm represented a family formerly living in the United States and now living abroad in connection with an international child custody dispute. The father’s fourteen year-old daughter was traveling to the United States on vacation and was detained by customs officials and the Virginia state police in connection with previous kidnapping allegations falsely filed by the child’s mother but never resolved. The child had been transferred to Loudoun County Child Protective Services, and CPS caseworkers did not disclose the child’s whereabouts to the family or the firm. In three days, our attorneys obtained an order from the Fairfax County Circuit Court authorizing the child’s release to her brother and sister living in the United States and resolved a matter that would have otherwise taken weeks or months.
